About Us

At Chattahoochee Gold Swimming, we believe swimming is more than a sport — it’s a way to build character, confidence, and community. For over 30 years, we’ve been guiding athletes across North Georgia, instilling teamwork and excellence in every lane.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to create a positive, supportive environment where effort, respect, and teamwork are the foundation of success. Through structured training, high-caliber coaching, and strong parent partnerships, we are committed to helping swimmers reach their personal best while learning the values of sportsmanship, responsibility, and community.

OUR VISION

At Chattahoochee Gold Swimming, our vision is to be more than just a swim team—we strive to be a community where athletes grow into leaders. We aim to provide every swimmer, from beginners to elite competitors, with the opportunity to develop confidence, discipline, and lifelong skills both in and out of the water.

WHO WE ARE

Chattahoochee Gold is a year-round swim club out of 4 locations in the surrounding the metro Atlanta area. We provide professional coaching at every group level, led by an experienced staff who run organized, fun, and challenging practices. Beyond the mechanics of swimming, we teach life skills that extend far outside the pool.

When Pat and Beth Murphy founded Chattahoochee Gold in 1992, they envisioned more than a team—they envisioned a culture of integrity, hard work, and inspiration. That vision quickly took shape. In 1996, with the support of our community, Chattahoochee Gold helped build a pre-Olympic training site at our Woodstock location, complete with a 50-meter pool. That same summer, the Russian Olympic swim team trained in Woodstock and stayed with local families, creating an unforgettable moment of international connection and inspiration.

Just as we remember that moment when expectations were exceeded and the future felt limitless, we seek to provide that same experience for every swimmer. Talent may be God-given, but effort is ours to own—and at Gold, effort is celebrated daily. This is a place where commitment, integrity, and inspiration guide our athletes, and where boys and girls train side by side in a positive atmosphere that fosters respect and unity.

legacy of leadership

For more than three decades, Chattahoochee Gold was guided by Pat and Beth Murphy, whose vision and dedication shaped generations of swimmers. Pat, a University of Southern Mississippi graduate, spent nearly forty years coaching in the Southeast, guiding swimmers to Olympic Trials qualifiers in every stroke and achieving national recognition for consistency and excellence. Beth, equally impactful, balanced her career in business and coaching while raising their daughter, creating an environment where young athletes not only succeeded in the pool but also grew as people. Together, the Murphys built more than a swim team—they built a family.

In the summer of 2025, Pat and Beth passed the torch, selling Chattahoochee Gold to Coach Mike Wardwell. With Mike’s leadership, the team looks forward to an exciting future—one that honors the Murphys’ enduring legacy while embracing new opportunities for growth and innovation.

Looking Ahead

Today, Chattahoochee Gold continues to lead the way for coach-owned, coach-driven teams nationwide. We are proud to provide stability, professionalism, and top-tier training in the most organized youth sport in America. More importantly, we are committed to raising the next generation of leaders—one stroke, one practice, and one swimmer at a time.

At Chattahoochee Gold, what we are truly building is bigger than swimming. We’re building confidence, community, and character—helping shape not just athletes, but future leaders who will carry these values into every part of their lives.
